Will I lose control?

People are often worried that they may say or do things whilst hypnotised that they would not normally say or do. You need not be concerned. You will remain in control during the entire process and you will generally be aware of everyting that is occurring. Loss of control is a myth, often encouraged by stage shows. Hypnotherapy is most certainly NOT like a stage show performance. Your comfort and well-being is of paramount importance.

What is the process?

Hypnotherapy is an interactive relationship between you and the therapist. Any treatment programme will begin with an initial consultation, where we will discuss the issues that you are facing and decide whether hypnotherapy will be of benefit to you. You are under no obligation to proceed with treatment if you feel at all uncomfortable. Once we have agreed on a course of action, the therapeutic process can begin.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

The broad answer to this question is 'yes'. There are very few people who cannot be hypnotised. However, a lot depends on the relationship between you and the therapist, and your commitment to the process. You will need to trust your therapist, and be willing to be hypnotised. Hypnotherapy will usually be less effective without these conditions.

I am receiving medical treatment - does this matter?

The answer to this question is 'possibly yes'. It is very important that there are no underlying medical reasons that might interfere with - or be affected by - the hypnotherapy process. In rare circumstances, we may need to consult with your doctor / GP before proceeding with treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends entirely on you and what we are treating you for. We may recommend a single session or a number of separate appointments, depending upon your needs. It is widely accepted, for example, that smoking cessation is far less effective when only a single session is used. Most routine treatment will require between one and four sessions. For things such as severe anxiety or depression, it may take considerably more. In any event, we will monitor your progress and will stop treatment (a) when you no longer need it, or (b) if treatment is having no beneficial effect, or (c) after 12 sessions (except in extraordinary circumstances).

How much does treatment cost?

Cost will vary depending upon the nature of the treatment. We use a combination of generic and highly focused (or 'targeted') hypnosis scripts , and you will pay more where treatment requires a personally tailored programme. A typical session costs £70.00, maximum cost will not exceed £120.00.

What about client confidentiality?

We hold details about you that are important to your treatment, and take active steps to ensure your information remains confidential, safe and secure. We will hold your data for a minimum period of three years so that we can refer back to your notes in the case of follow-up treatment. After this time, your personal information will be destroyed via a confidential waste disposal service. Andrew M Sidebottom is registered under the Data Protection Act.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please read this policy carefully. In the event that you need to cancel your appointment, you will be charged no cancellation fee providing you give at least 48 hours notice.  If you cancel your appointment less than 48 hours prior to your appointment, a 50% cancellation fee will be incurred.  If you fail to meet a scheduled appointment without notification, you will be liable for 100% of the standard session fee.
